Unit 9 - Mixing research/drumming

Image
I decided to research how to EQ on logic pro, in order to help me get a better understanding when mixing the songs for the unit 9 cd project. The first thing i looked at was this website:  https://www.armadamusic.com/university/music-production-articles/eq-explained-the-basics It states that Equalisation is used to adjust the volume level of a frequency (or range of frequencies), within a sound. It is done by cutting unwanted frequencies and/or boosting others, all to balance out sounds so they work well with one another. This is an overview of EQ frequencies Sub bass Sub bass ranges from 20-60Hz. An appropriate amount of sub bass can give your track a boost in low-end power, but too much will make your low end sound muddy and undefined. Bass Bass ranges from 60Hz to approximately 250Hz. A lot of bass may sound nice, but it can also completely overpower the rest of your mix. As always use restraint. Low Mids Low mids range from 250-1500Hz. This frequency range is responsible for th...

Unit 11: Personal Statement

Since the age of 6, drumming and music in general  has bee n a huge part and  the most important aspect of my life.  I have had many inspirations that led me to pursue my natural ability of drummin g and  music,  but  the m ain ones were my father and grandfather .     My  chief influences are  drummers such as Stewart Copeland from  T he  P olice, Ringo  S tar r  from The Beatles,  and Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac. My  inspiration  for music comes from the feeling  I  get playing  my own piece s  on stage and seeing the crowd connect with a fee ling or sound that I created . T his  is  incredibly special  to me  and  has really pushed me to get my musical knowledge as strong as it can be through my drum grades ,  my Music GCSE s,  and t hese past two years t he UAL Extended Diploma. The encouragement from my teachers and parents has mad...

Unit 11: Photo shoot outcomes

Image
For our photo shoot my band and I discussed differences and similarities in each album of our mood board. What we noticed was that every album contained each band member together and that they were all dressed casually. All of the band members in each album were all looking at the camera apart from The Beatles. We were unsure at first on how to pose and what to wear but after researching different indie rock band's albums we all knew to look at the camera and to dress casually. These we're our main choices. Even though all of the band members in the mood board pictures (except from The Beatles) were looking at the camera, I decided to make things a bit interesting by having only me looking away from the camera. Unfortunately I think this picture came out darker than what we had in mind. I also  think the paint on our faces adds a lot of flavour and creativity to the picture rather than keeping it simple. Our second choice: This picture is very similar to the previous one, and...

Unit 9: Gig summary

Image
For this performance we were told to play the 3 songs we were using for the CD project. The gig was in college on the 22nd of October 2025. I was playing with my band Rex and I was also playing with Kai as he played the guitar and sang. Therefore, i had 2 setlists. Rex's setlist - Save the world - Time of your life - Gold under the sea Kai's setlist - I won't be coming home - Play your game - Rocking, Rocking down the line A week before the gig my band Rex we're in desperate need of a bassist, since our regular bassist is in the year group below, therefore he wasn't allowed to perform with us. Because of this we asked Kai to play with us since he was the only other bassist who had played with us before in our class, and he agreed to do it on the note that i play drums for his set, which i also agreed too.  Unfortunately due to the short notice, Kai had to teach me all 3 songs in only 2 days. Since Kai was only planning on playing guitar and singing, I had to come up...

Unit 11: Promotional photos/Mood board

Image
What are the technical requirements for promotional photos? Size The band decided to only release the promotional photos on instagram. In order for the pictures to be advertised on Instagram, the size needed is 1080 x 1080 pixels or 1080 x 1350 pixels. The recommended aspect ratio to use is 1:1 or 4:5. and the maximum file size is 8MB. https://sproutsocial.com/insights/social-media-image-sizes-guide/ Although, the picture for the CD insert needs to be quite small for it to fit. The standard finished size of a CD insert is 4.724 x 4.724 inches which is 120 x 120 mm. To ensure the picture looks clear it needs to be at least 300 dpi. https://www.printingforless.com/resources/cd-cover-size-specifications/?srsltid=AfmBOopkE6cxY0bPXwIN6dqAwRhlpVVCrrYg_wrCH5C7P_mgYvGQEB2e We are also interested in handing out a few flyers as well, and i feel the best size for the flyers would be a mini flyer which is 5 x 7 inches, 127 x 178mm and the size in pixels is 15...
