What are the technical requirements for promotional photos?

Size

The band decided to only release the promotional photos on instagram.

In order for the pictures to be advertised on Instagram, the size needed is 1080 x 1080 pixels or 1080 x 1350 pixels. The recommended aspect ratio to use is 1:1 or 4:5. and the maximum file size is 8MB. https://sproutsocial.com/insights/social-media-image-sizes-guide/

Although, the picture for the CD insert needs to be quite small for it to fit. The standard finished size of a CD insert is 4.724 x 4.724 inches which is 120 x 120 mm. To ensure the picture looks clear it needs to be at least 300 dpi.

We are also interested in handing out a few flyers as well, and i feel the best size for the flyers would be a mini flyer which is 5 x 7 inches, 127 x 178mm and the size in pixels is 1500 x 2100 at 300 dpi. I thought that this may the best size since it's versatile and compact and easy to carry around.

Shape

The shape of the photographs will most likely be square.

Resolution

The ideal resolution for a cd insert is 300dpi which gives a high quality result.

File format

JPEG-

Advantages

- It's known as the best file format for photography and complex images with many colours.

- It's compatible with most browsers, software and apps.

- Lossless compression - drastically reduces file size

- Faster processing times and widely accessible

Disadvantages

- Lossless compression leads to quality loss and will reduce sharpness in the image

- unsuitable for sharp graphics

- Limited in dynamic range

For my photography, i will be using JPEG due to it being ideal for photography and having a low file size. The only disadvantage is that it loses image quality during compression. However, it is widely accessible and compatible with most browsers, softwares and apps.

What i noticed about these pictures is that they all include every member of the band, and all are looking directly at the camera except from The Beatles album cover.

Week 1: 02/03/26 I started this week by looking at different ideas on what to do my project on. By the end of the week I had decided to create a research based project. In my project I will be researching different drummers and styles along with including my own examples of using these techniques. I also created a timetable on what to follow each week for the project. Week 1 Evaluation: I am happy with how my progress is going this week, I managed to pick my choice for the project quite early on in the week which gave me some time to complete my timetable that I will be following for the project. 6/8 The first track I began working on was the 6/8 time signature track. I firstly came up with two simple chords which were Dm7 and Fmaj7 which I found sounded well together after I started playing some random chords on the guitar to come up with something. I then created a simple strumming pattern that was played in 6/8. Once I had the input set properly and the gain on the guitar, I then used a tap tempo app on my phone to figure out what the tempo of the song was, which was 31bpm. I did struggle playing the chords for a long time as they were barre chords, so I simply recorded the first 2 bars of the song using a thick and clean amplifier on logic which I picked out, I also added an echo pedal and a retro chorus pedal which I thought sounded very well put together and it was the sound I was looking which was bright. After recording 8 bars on the guitar, I repeated this process until I had 12 bars put together. I then moved onto using a bass track which I used from logic and changed...

 What am I doing for my final major project? I have decided to do a research blog for my final major project.   In these blogs I will be researching different drummers and styles, I will also be including some tracks of me experimenting with these styles. I will make a total of 7 posts which are traditional drumming, jazz drumming, funk drumming, time signatures, African drumming, drum machines and a recording journal for my own tracks. Why have I decided to do this? As a drummer myself, I have very little knowledge on different historical contexts and styles of drumming.
