Rehearsal venues in Swansea 

Sound Haven 



The location of Sound Haven is: Unit 25, SA1 Business park, Swansea, SA1 8DB

Compared to other rehearsal venues, Sound haven is a reasonable price to hire, whether it's for band, DJ or solo artists. Prices for full band rehearsals start from £15 and end at £50. Prices for single occupancy are £7.50 an hour for peak times, and £5 for off-peak times. 

Equipment hire is also at a convenient reasonable price and, ranging from £5 to £15. According to musicians who have visited Sound Haven, The equipment that you are able o hire is very high quality and definitely worth the price.

Opening times: Monday to Friday, 12PM-11PM. Saturday to Sunday, 10AM-10PM

Peak times: Monday to Friday: 5PM-11PM

Off-peak times: Monday to Friday: 12PM - 5PM. Saturday to Sunday, 10AM- 10PM

Pros of Sound Haven include, is considered a lot cheaper to hire compared to other rehearsal venues. Has a variety of equipment to hire unlike other venues. Has spacious rehearsal venues which is accessible for large bands and large equipment. Another advantage of this rehearsal venue is that it is open 7 days a week and open for long hours, therefore bands have plenty of time to practice.

Cons of sound haven include the fact it may not be accessible for people who don't drive. There's also the possibility of the guitar/bass amps you can hire being worn out, due to heavy use from many other bands practicing there.

Hangar 18 Music Venue



The location of Hangar 18 Music Venue is 50 Plymouth St, Swansea, SA1 3QQ

Different to other rehearsal venues, Hangar 18 requires booking through emailing the company. A drum kit, a small PA system, Microphones, stands, 2 guitar cables and a bass cable are provided when rehearsing. The rehearsal rooms are comfortable, with sound proof panels around the room, and kept tidy to ensure a comfortable rehearsal. Unlike other rehearsal venues, Hangar 18 provides us with the information that each rehearsal room is 20ft x 14ft.

Rehearsal time slots are between 6pm to 10pm from Monday to Thursday. Three slots are available every Sunday, 10am-2pm, 2pm to 6pm and 6pm to 10pm.

Pros of Hangar 19 Music Venue are unlike other venues, hangar 18 provides bands with cables, a dum kit , stands, a pa system and microphones, which will allow musicians to carry less. Another pro is that the venue is located in the city centre where there's a bus station, therefore people who can't drive can get public transport to the venue. 

Cons of Hangar 18 Music Venue, are it has limited rehearsal hours, for example sound haven is open 12am to 11pm on weekdays, and is available to book anytime up to 5 hours, whereas Hangar 18 is only available for slots up to 4 hours. Another con of Hangar 18 music venue is equipment they provide to you may be worn out due to heavy usage from other bands.

The Bunkhouse


The location of The Bunkhouse is 24 Park St,  Swansea, SA1 3DJ

The Bunkhouse allows you to book online, and has very reasonable prices compared to other venues. For 1 hour of rehearsal space it's £12, for 2 hours it's £24 and for 3 hours it's £30. Out of all the rehearsal venues in Swansea this is by far the cheapest. 3 hours is the maximum time you can rehears there.

The Bunkhouse has a rehearsal space for solo artists, Dj's, bands and podcasts. The rehearsal room is upstairs, away from the bus venue downstairs. They also provide microphones, cables, a drum kit, vocal PA, a mixing desk, CDJ's and podcast microphones. Unlike other venues, The Bunkhouse also have the option of recording sessions and mixing it for you at an extra cost.  

One pro of rehearsing at The Bunkhouse is that it's also located in the city centre, which has a wide range of public transport that can take you there. It can also record sessions and podcasts unlike any other venue. The Bunkhouse also has a lot of musicians who go there regularly, therefore you may be able to network with other musicians while being there and seek advice.

One con of The Bunkhouse is that it has limited hours for rehearsing. Another con of The Bunkhouse is that it has limited information on the rehearsal rooms, for example, it doesn't tell us how many rooms they have and how big they are and whether they're soundproof.  Another con is that they don't have a lot of availability which can be a problem for bands who are in need to rehearse.

Week 1: 02/03/26 I started this week by looking at different ideas on what to do my project on. By the end of the week I had decided to create a research based project. In my project I will be researching different drummers and styles along with including my own examples of using these techniques. I also created a timetable on what to follow each week for the project. Week 1 Evaluation: I am happy with how my progress is going this week, I managed to pick my choice for the project quite early on in the week which gave me some time to complete my timetable that I will be following for the project. I also managed to find what styles and drummers I will be researching which will be helpful when creating my presentation. Unfortunately I haven't yet began my research posts or any sort of blogpost. Targets for next week: My targets for next week will be to discuss my choice for the project with my lecturers too see if it's up to standard, I will also check to see if my timetable need...

6/8 The first track I began working on was the 6/8 time signature track. I firstly came up with two simple chords which were Dm7 and Fmaj7 which I found sounded well together after I started playing some random chords on the guitar to come up with something. I then created a simple strumming pattern that was played in 6/8. Once I had the input set properly and the gain on the guitar, I then used a tap tempo app on my phone to figure out what the tempo of the song was, which was 31bpm. I did struggle playing the chords for a long time as they were barre chords, so I simply recorded the first 2 bars of the song using a thick and clean amplifier on logic which I picked out, I also added an echo pedal and a retro chorus pedal which I thought sounded very well put together and it was the sound I was looking which was bright.  What am I doing for my final major project? I have decided to do a research blog for my final major project.   In these blogs I will be researching different drummers and styles, I will also be including some tracks of me experimenting with these styles. I will make a total of 7 posts which are traditional drumming, jazz drumming, funk drumming, time signatures, African drumming, drum machines and a recording journal for my own tracks. Why have I decided to do this? As a drummer myself, I have very little knowledge on different historical contexts and styles of drumming. Therefore, I decided doing multiple different research posts would be very beneficial for me and would hopefully help my development as a drummer.
