Unit 8: proposal
Rationale
During the first 7 units of the course, I explored many different elements of music such as performing, recording a podcast and a music video, research, and music business. The main things I have learnt are how to use Logic Po, how to record, and how to correctly set up instruments in the studio (for example, miking up amps and drums). I have also learnt the basics of production and mixing. I most enjoyed doing the recording unit of the course, and this inspired me to do an EP with my band as my final project.
Project concept
The concept of my project is to record a 4 track Ep with my band Rex. This will include the process of writing, arranging, rehearsing and recording 4 new songs, mixing and producing them to a high standard and designing an album cover, and finally uploading them on streaming platforms. I also need to do some research on mixing and producing songs for the project, I also aim to do some research on Logic pro (exploring different tools and techniques) to improve my producing and mixing, I will use resources such as YouTube for research on Logic Pro, and for mixing I will look for reliable websites and sources online and even look for books for extra information. My aim for this project is to successfully write and record 4 songs and to make sure I document everything in a journal. I also aim to stick to the plan I have made and reach deadlines. The evidence to show I have completed all objectives which are writing, recording and research will be shown with a completed CD, documentation and meeting notes which will occur during recording and rehearsing we’ve completed during the recording time of the project.
Evaluation
I will ensure to add all my entries to my portfolio to evidence my portfolio. This will include rehearsal videos, screenshots from Logic Pro and lyric sheets. I also plan to meet with my lecturers regularly to ensure the work is at a good level. I plan to follow a schedule to meet deadlines on the work.
Project Action Plan
The action plan for this project is to spend the first week writing our songs. We will then be recording for 5 weeks and mixing during these weeks. The album cover will be made in the Easter holiday. When we get back to college, we will look over the tracks again and see if they need mixing again to add anything else we want. We will then make the CDs and promote using social media. We will then perform a gig to sell the CDs at and the last week will be used making sure all evidence and journals are done.
