Identifying skills
Our class discussed skills that had relevance to employability to help us in a job. For example, being part of a team, leadership skills, productivity and time efficiency skills.
Generating ideas
we used a few different methods of generating ideas, this included making mind maps, discussing ideas with a team and looking up some online, and generating ideas individually and bringing them to a team. We then had a practical session where we would be given a topic and would go off individually went off and made ideas. After we all had individual ideas, we would go to our team and discuss all of our ideas and even merge some of them to make them better.
Decision-making techniques
We looked at the different decision-making technique than can be made in a team. this includes methods such democracy which is taking a vote on the topic and the majority of votes wins. We learnt about a dictator vote where the leader makes all the decisions and no one else gets a say. We did some experiments with these two methods and found democracy was better because it gives more people a say and makes it more fair rather than it just depending on one person.
Strengths and weaknesses
We learnt about strengths and weaknesses by looking at a few examples and identifying our own, we also made a mindmap on the different strengths and weaknesses and how we could improve on the weaknesses. We also researched into these topics and how we could improve our weaknesses.
Planning
We discussed and planned as a team on what activity would go where and wrote it down in exact order.
SMART targets
SMART targets are goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound. They required us to make a specific goal and narrow it down for more effective planning, make sure our goal and progress is measurable, make sure we can accomplish your
goal within a certain time frame, that our goal should align with our values and long time objectives and set a realistic nut ambitious end date to clarify task prioritization and increase motivation.
Skills awareness
This linked back to the first session where we used the skills we identified but then we looked at how to develop these skills further. We also had a look at skills we weren't confident in and found ways to build these skills. For example, people who lack skills in good leadership could spend time taking experience in being the leader in out-of-work situations and learn how to lead a group of people into succession.
Team roles
We looked at 5 specific roles in a team. These include a leader, explorer, practitioner, collaborator and innovator. We learnt about the roles of each of these roles and did a practical where we got into a group of 5. And assigned each person to a different role and we had to complete a task using the assigned roles. We then did a test at the end of the lesson where we had to answer questions and we were told which role we related to the most based off our qualities and skills.
Presentation skills
We learnt a few different methods of presenting an idea. These methods include speaking from a few key points, speaking off of a script and speaking off the top of your mind. We looked at the advantages and disadvantages of each of these methods and as a class, decided speaking from key points was the best method since it didn't sound too scripted and we also knew what we were going to say.
Online collaboration
Online collaboration helped us complete a work sheet online. We were put into different groups where we shared different ideas, then we had the task to complete he worksheet with little to no communication. The only communication that was aloud was through email or teams in order to boost the online aspect of it.
Digital citizenship and ethics
We learnt how to use technology responsibility and safely. We learnt the do's and don'ts of what to do online in an in work situation and an out of work situation.
