Unit 10: Essay Plan

 My idea for Unit 10 is how sound systems have evolved. This will go through the changes that brought us from mono to Dolby Atmos. I will also be looking into how each setups work as well as the benefits and limitations of each which led to the upgraded system setups. 


I will be researching topics such as 

1.) Stereo audio

2.) Mono audio

3.) Surround sound 

4.) Dolby Atmos

I will also include diagrams of how the system setups are laid out and how they affect the sound.

For my research I gathered information by watching videos and reading websites for Stereo, mono and surround sound. But i couldn't find a suitable video for Dolby Atmos, therefore I gathered all of my information from websites.

Week 1: 02/03/26 I started this week by looking at different ideas on what to do my project on. By the end of the week I had decided to create a research based project. In my project I will be researching different drummers and styles along with including my own examples of using these techniques. I also created a timetable on what to follow each week for the project. Week 1 Evaluation: I am happy with how my progress is going this week, I managed to pick my choice for the project quite early on in the week which gave me some time to complete my timetable that I will be following for the project. I also managed to find what styles and drummers I will be researching which will be helpful when creating my presentation. Unfortunately I haven't yet began my research posts or any sort of blogpost. 6/8 The first track I began working on was the 6/8 time signature track. I firstly came up with two simple chords which were Dm7 and Fmaj7 which I found sounded well together after I started playing some random chords on the guitar to come up with something. I then created a simple strumming pattern that was played in 6/8. Once I had the input set properly and the gain on the guitar, I then used a tap tempo app on my phone to figure out what the tempo of the song was, which was 31bpm. I did struggle playing the chords for a long time as they were barre chords, so I simply recorded the first 2 bars of the song using a thick and clean amplifier on logic which I picked out, I also added an echo pedal and a retro chorus pedal which I thought sounded very well put together and it was the sound I was looking which was bright.  What am I doing for my final major project? I have decided to do a research blog for my final major project.   In these blogs I will be researching different drummers and styles, I will also be including some tracks of me experimenting with these styles. I will make a total of 7 posts which are traditional drumming, jazz drumming, funk drumming, time signatures, African drumming, drum machines and a recording journal for my own tracks. Why have I decided to do this? As a drummer myself, I have very little knowledge on different historical contexts and styles of drumming. Therefore, I decided doing multiple different research posts would be very beneficial for me and would hopefully help my development as a drummer.
